Prisoners of Technology — Time to get UNPLUGGED!

Autographed edition available.

Instead of making life easier, technology has introduced complexity. Instead of giving us more time with family, technology has pulled family members away from each other and toward their devices.

Lisa has published her second book to encourage us to step away from the keyboard, e-mail, cell phone, and GPS devices and instead position ourselves to give a loved one a hug or wave at our neighbor.

Prisoners of Technology —Time to get Unplugged is a sometimes humorous, sometimes controversial, always revealing look at the hold technology has on our lives and what we need to do to regain control of our lives.

Prisoners of Technology doesn’t condemn technology,” stresses Whaley. “Our technical devices are much too wonderful to receive condemnation. What this book does is open our eyes to ways we’ve developed unhealthy attachments to our machines and offers approaches to scaling down our dependency on them.”

“I spent 22 years at IBM before leaving in 2004 as a vice president. I have first-hand experience with the burnout caused by work/life imbalance and overuse of technology.”

While it took 38 years for radio to attract 50 million listeners, 13 years for television to attract 50 million viewers, it took only 4 years for the Internet to attract 50 million surfers!

“Today, on demand has changed business and our lives,” stresses Whaley. “We have come to expect everything on demand, from videos to electronic banking to bill paying to ourselves. We have become almost robotic. We feel guilty if we unplug for a little while. Yet we must!”

After coming unplugged herself, Whaley has put her life in order, started a business, traveled nationwide as a speaker, and published her first book. Now in her second book, Whaley invites us to come unplugged, connect with people, and control our lives.

Reclaiming My Soul From the Lost and Found

As seen in
the New York Times
and USA Today

“I didn’t think there was anything profoundly unique or interesting about my life that other people would actually want to read. I’m not a famous celebrity or a politician. I’m just like every other woman out there trying to get through life one day at a time. But after September 21, 2002, I started rethinking the uniqueness of my life.”

It was on that day that Lisa J. Whaley watched her seemingly perfect life unravel before her eyes. As a wife, mother, and successful IBM executive, she had spent years trying to achieve the kind of success that others expected from her and that she demanded from herself. Yet, when she found herself dealing with an out-of-control teenager who had entered a world of sex, drugs, and alcohol, as well as a marriage collapsing under the pressure, her own serious physical and emotional illnesses, and much more, she experienced a level of despair she never thought possible and ultimately considered the unthinkable.
